Russia Military’s Latest Warfare Suit – Ratnik 3 Project

Russia announced and publically showed their new tactical suit from the “Ratnik 3” project. It’s “Star Wars” looking and has lots of important and cool features combined with the latest Russian technology, making sure that their soldiers are well equipped during different missions. The third-generation suit consists five integrated systems that include life support, engaging, communications and command, protection and energy saving subsystems.

The suit comes with 59 different items, including a powered exoskeleton that is responsible for giving the soldier more strength and stamina, a helmet and visor that covers and protects the entire face and cutting-edge body armor, so you could not do anything to him. It has been fitted with lots of other features and a special watch, that “retains its properties upon the impact of radiation and electromagnetic impulses, for example, upon a nuclear blast” says Rostec’s chief designer of the suit, Oleg Faustov.

Design

The suit was allegedly seen on the battlefield at Crimea back in 2013 worn by only a few Russian soldiers. It will be officially handed to the army by the year of 2022, due to further examinations and some unfinished features.

The design of the suit reminds me of these the characters from the game “Halo” and “Deadzone” had. It looks incredibly futuristic and has an enormous amount of different options. It’s including advanced optics, a grenade launcher and the latest installation in Russia’s Kalashnikov series – the AK-12.

The suit also has a pop-up display that can be used for tasks like examining a plan of the battlefield or other tactical concepts.

“We are completing the scientific research on creating the future layout of the Ratnik-3 combat gear. The implementation of the project will allow increasing the performance of a soldier by 1.5 times in completing various tasks,” Salyukov told Russia’s Defense Ministry newspaper.

Ergonomics and The Exoskeleton

One of the best things, apart from the protection, about the “Warrior 3” suit is that it could be worn for 24 hours with no problem, due to its ergonomics. According to the head of the Russian army, Colonel General Oleg Salyukov, the suit weights 30% less than the previous version. Mostly it’s weight comes from the powered exoskeleton, which is a wearable mobile machine that’s powered by a system of hydraulics, levers, electric motors, pneumatics and other technology that allows the soldier to move easily and increases his strength and stamina.

It’s a really helpful feature but is electrical-powered, which means that it has big unpractical batteries that the fighter has to deal with.

This is a model of an Exoskeleton, that is used in medicine to help disabled people walk again. It is used the same way in the military as it is in medicine.

What happens during a nuclear attack?
In order to save the life of the soldier and the features of the suit, the Russian military has created a  watch that “absorbs” the killer radiowaves. The technology behind it remains unknown, which is understandable, so we will give information about it if there is anything further.

Russia is not the only country that works on such suit models. The USA hopes to unveil their Tactical Light Operator Suit in 2018. France is also working on such a model, that we will see in the near future.
