Sony WH-1000XM2 – Wireless Noise-Canceling Headphones

Sony’s highly appreciated series – the “WH-1000XM” from last year, got their second version released last month, and I have to admint that the company, and the team that worked on this project, did a great job at keeping and upgrading the series at a top-notch level. The 100XM2 is in each way better version of last’s year product, while the design is kept almost the same, but with minor changes, that add to its smart and clean look. They sound great, the noise cancellation is effective, and the adaptiveness to the surroundings is innovative and really useful.

They are valued at $350 and could be directly purchased from Sony’s website, as well as Amazon and other online selling platforms. It is a hard competitor amongst its rivals from Beats By Dre, Bose, Razer and etc., and are perfect for everyday use as well as professional and recording.

Design

The body is mainly plastic, with polished metal in the headband and good quality synthetic leather at the ears. They left the design almost the same, with small improvements over the original to keep it’s smart and responsive look. The leather that covers the earbuds is thicker and feels more secure than last’s year smooth surface, which makes it harder to scratch and adds to its durability as well.

It is a flexible headphone set with no wireless, with the ability to fold the earcups to the inside or stretch them out to adjust them to the size of your head. The earcups are incredibly soft and comfortable, and it’s one of the things that has not changed from last year because they are efficient enough this way, and do not need any changes.

Flexible and folding earcups

There is not much in terms of changing the position or way how the button system works.Power/pairing remains where it is, but noise canceling and ambient sound adjustment have been combined into one. This way you will hardly happen to press the wrong button and interrupt the playback, which adds to the listening experience.

Performance, features, and pairing

This sequel of the WH-1000XM series is compatible with aptX HD, which is a higher quality Bluetooth format that can handle hi-res audio up to 24bit/48kHz, and LDAC, which can handle 24bit/96kHz. The bad side of the LDAC is that it’s a proprietary Sony format – in other words, it’s limited to Sony devices. The left ear has an NFC chip, for quicker Bluetooth pairing. The touch-sensitive control pad on the right ear cup has been tightened up, so your inputs feel more accurate and responsive.is Another unchanged thing that remains the same is the Quick Attention mode, where you hold your palm to the right ear to mute.

The side touchpad

The Ambient Sound and Optimizer features have also been improved. The Ambient Sound is incredible, improved to the point of adapting to the surroundings and the activity that you’re doing. If you are in a noisy place, it detects it and strengthens the noise cancellation so you could enjoy what you’re listening to. The Optimizer has a new pressure sensor and scanner that scans the side of your head and reads other structure factors, in order to optimize the sound quality to the fullest.

A brief idea of how the mobile app works co-operates with the headphones

The headphones are wireless, so you have to bear in mind that you have to charge them sometimes using a USB charging method. It won’t be that often, due to the long-lasting battery life. If you are playing music continuously on playback, it could last averagely 30 hours, but if you turn the noise-cancellation feature off, you’d get an extra 8 to 10 hours!

The waiting time of the battery is fair too – if you leave them with noise-cancellation on they’d last up to 40 hours, and if you turn it off it’d last up to 200 hours (or in other words 8 days). You can also connect them to a computer or other DeeJay platform via 3.5mm headphone jack gold-plated L-shaped stereo mini plug, with 4.92′ cord length, that comes with the purchase packaging.

The Sony WH-1000XM2 have improved on their predecessors in nearly every way. The physical design has been improved for the better, the audio performance is stronger, and the noise cancellation is smarter, innovative, surely adaptive and supportive at each and every playing-moment!
