Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) – Low-Cost Samsung Phone

Samsung fans will surely love the new J3 version, that was released back in July this year. It is a decent phone for a really reasonable price. With a good-looking design and fair hardware, it offers lots of possibilities for a phone that costs only $150 and you could purchase it right from Samsung’s website. Lots of things I find pretty good for the price, and lots of pretty good things are missing but that’s what you can get for this price tag.

The design is surely good and ergonomic, unlike the internal storage capacity. The good thing is that it’s upgradable via micro SD slot but the RAM storage could not be upgraded and you have to deal with 2GB of RAM, which is not too bad but it surely could’ve been higher.

Design

Notably, the used style of design is familiar to the audience and it’s totally obvious that it’s from the Galaxy series. The rounded, organic shapes, its big, separated home button, and pastel colors are the things that add to the familiar design that I’m talking about. Available colors are black, gold, and a bright metallic blue and all three colors are quite restrained and the Galaxy J3 is thus not really an eye-catcher.

Instead, it impresses with an impeccable build and its entirely glass-covered front with elegantly rounded edges toward the rear. The sides are where the physical buttons are placed, including ones for “lock/power” on the right side and a volume console on the left one. Samsung Galaxy J3 works with two nanoSIM slots – the first sim slot is separated, while the other one is next to the microSD slot on the side, beneath the volume adjusting buttons.

Whether you’re scrolling through photos, watching family videos, or just browsing through your social media dashboard, you’ll get a bright, full picture on the vibrant 5.0″ HD display. With thin bezel frame on the sides, the front seems elegant and well-presenting. The featured buttons are as mostly seen – a physical “home” button, with capacitive ones on it’s both sides for “app switching” and “back”. On the top, we could see the front 5 MP with LED flash camera and the Samsung logo positioned in the center.

Moving to the back of the device, we see that this time the main camera is totally flat and does not point out even a millimeter. It’s positioned in the middle and the LED flash is right underneath it. The eye-catching chromed Samsung signature is positioned in the center.Overall it is a good looking phone for this price range, and it surely will appeal to most fans.

Specs, display, and connectivity

As I already said, the phone performs great for this price and the specs that it’s showing are more than enough for everyday usage. One of the cons that popped first is the 16GB internal storage capacity, which as mentioned above is upgradable up to 256GB with a microSD card. Four gigabytes of RAM storage is also not that high but will work fine at running most of the games on the market, along with the Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. The cameras are also performing well enough, with 5MP front one and 13MP rear one, that’s capable of recording videos at 1080p@30fps quality with geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama features all included.

The 5.0″ eye-catching display presents and performs more than expected, with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and the often seen 16:9 aspect ratio. It is PLS capacitive touchscreen with a multitouch ability. The PLS technology is almost identical to the ISP one, it’s just 10% brighter and with a small advance in different angle views. The manufacturer didn’t give a statement that it’s protected from any type of cover, but we have a 2.5D glass, which is known for its durability, strength and minimal curves on the edges, giving it a way better way of looking.

In terms of connectivity, we have to note out that it expectedly supports Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth. A conventional micro-USB port is situated on the lower edge. The Galaxy J models do not yet have USB Type-C. The smartphone supports USB OTG, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.2. It also supports a 3.5mm audio jack, and it is located on the bottom, which I find more comfortable than the tendency of the top-notch phones that put it on the top.
