Top 3 Best Gaming Laptops for $1000

Choosing a laptop that’ll be the best option for you is hard, especially with all the models that were released lately. You have to consider different aspects before making the choice, such as price, hardware, ergonomics and most importantly – what are you going to use it for. If you are willing to buy a gaming PC, then the following article may be considered as a guide for getting the best laptop for $1000 or less, and I’m sure that it will help you.

Companies like Dell, Asus, HP, Acer and etc. are always putting their best, so that they can overtake the market’s first selling spots. In 2017 we’ve seen laptops with crazy hardware capabilities, which surely deserve the price tag and offer immersive gaming experience. We’ll take a look at the top 3 laptops that you can get for the price of $1000 and compare them while watching the video, presented by Matthew Moniz. The models that we’re about to see are Acer Aspire VX 15, HP Omen 15 and Lenovo Legion Y520.

Design and looks

All of the three laptops are made of plastic and have a slightly similar design and very same purpose – gaming. They have to look aggressive and futuristic, and they all do except the Lenovo Y520 that still looks aggressive due to the all black colorway, but will pass as a business type laptop as well. The HP Omen 15 looks clean and simple with that greyish black colorway and red Omen logo in the center of the backlit, while the Acer VX15 has the best charisma and takes the first place in my opinion when it comes to design. It looks amazing on the upper with the 2 red lines that shine across the graphite covered backlit surface.

In terms of size, they have a small difference as well as in weight. The Acer VX leads the competition with 5.51, which is good as the difference is not that much, but that’s due to the more sophisticated design and especially the vents that look like the rear side of a Lamborghini.

Price and hardware

When it comes to pricing, the Acer VX 15 wins again with the low price of $799, which is great for a laptop of this high gaming class. It packs a 7th generation quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, clocked up at 2.8GHz with 6MB cache. The internal storage capacity is 256GB but is easily upgradable which will cost you another $200 but that’s all up to you. The RAM inside is 2x8GB which makes a total of 16GB DDR4 RAM storage.

The screen is having an IPS technology, with graphics backed up by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB GDDR5. There are many color versions that you can choose for the backlit keyboard, and they’ll glow for a long time because the battery performs more than better!

The HP Omen 15 has the same pricing as the Lenovo Legion, both coming at the price of $849.It has a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, clocked up at 2.6 GHz.  Internal storage is what it beats the competition at, packing a 2TB SATA drive inside as well as 16GB DDR4 RAM.

The graphics are assured by N VIDIA GeForce GTX 960M with again – 4GB GDDR5. I like the 15.6″ diagonal UHD IPS display on this one more than on the Acer VX15 as it has the revolution of 3840 x 2160 ppi, which means that it presents video/pictures at 4K quality with no problem, so expect the best gaming experience possible for this price!

The Lenovo Legion Y520 is a combination of both laptops, that were listed above, and comes at a price close to them, starting at $849 and offering the same hardware as the HP Omen, and the Acer VX graphics card. To start with, it has a quad-core 2.8-GHz Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB SATA hard drive, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB capacity and 1920 x 1080 ppi resolution, presenting on 15.6″ display, which is the same as the Acer Aspire VX 15. With almost the same hardware as the HP Omen 15, it could’ve been 4K quality as well but that’s unfortunately not included.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the Acer Aspire VX 15 is the best option, not because of the $50 lower price, but because of the latest generation Intel processor and screen technology used. It may not be 4K quality screen as the HP Omen 15, but it presents colors at high accuracy as well. The keyboard and armrest deck is better than the other listed models as well, which is key for a gaming laptop, as you’ll probably spend hours and hours of gaming time on it, so your hand has to rest properly in place. The positioning and spacing between buttons are good, so you’ll hardly happen to hit a button that you didn’t want to.

When it comes to touchpad design, comfort and performance, Matthew Moniz shares my opinion, that the Acer VX 15 wins again, being the most accurate, stylish and responsible one. Cooling on all three models is good, so you’ll hardly experience overheating problems – they may show in future if you don’t take proper care of your laptop, as it happens with any other gaming related models.

They all work at ~40 degrees Celsius. The battery life award goes to the Acer VX15 again, reaching 6-7 hours of powerful gaming use, before a charging is required. According to Matthew, the HP Omen 15 is the best option because of the UHD display, which is the key difference among all. However, if you ask me, the Acer Aspire is the best option here, as it will suit most people that search for a gaming machine that’ll have everything they need with just IPS screen technology as a sacrifice for plenty of other features.
