Mate 10 Pro Smartphone – By Huawei

With these additions happening to the phone market this year, a big company like Huawei was expected as well to release its first-spot competing product and that’s the Mate 10 Pro. It is a beautiful looking phone, that packs really powerful software with immersive camera possibilities and solid handling with a durable design. It comes at the price of about $950, which is fair for device like that.

If you compare it’s specs to other top-selling phones right now you’ll see that it wins in more than few ways. For example, it offers more storage – 128GB as a standard vs 64GB on most of the phones out there. It is 128GB and could not be upgraded and I don’t think that you’ll actually need to. It’s more than enough for me, personally. The battery is also more powerful and durable, compared to the well-known Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone 8 Plus.

While the specs are in some ways better than it’s rivals, I have to admit that the phone is far from perfect because it lacks major features that we’ll get into in a minute.

Design

The evolution of Huawei’s smartphones has turned out to be great, since the phone looks, feels and operates beyond expectations. On the front, the phone is offering a 6-inch display with curved Gorilla Glass back panel combined with a metal frame to create a phone that looks sleek, feels rich and doesn’t disappoint alongside other phones in the same price range. Coming with a screen-protector pre-fitted, as well as a soft plastic case in the box, it’s also promising you that you won’t have to make any additional investments to keep your pricey new smartphone protected from all sides.

Talking about the sides, I have to mention that the only buttons that the phone has are located on the right side and are there so you could easily adjust your volume level or lock/power off your device. The corners are looking good and have that smooth edging that adds to the rich and sophisticated looks. There is a USB-C port is at its base while the SIM tray sits on the left side.

Going on to the back is pretty much where the phone grabs my attention. The dual camera is located in the upper middle and they are positioned vertically, with the Leica optics labeling on the left. Right under the powerful camera, there’s the fingerprint sensor, used as an alternative way of unlocking your phone as well as a security option that strengthens the info/file protection of the phone. The phone ships in four colors – Mocha Brown, Midnight Blue, Titanium Gray and Pink Gold

Performance, camera, and specs

A 12-megapixel sensor takes shots in color, while a 20-megapixel sensor shoots exclusively in black and white. Colours are rich, with great exposure balance between bright skies and shadowy foregrounds. You can take portrait photos with a tap of an on-screen control or selfies with the front 8 MP one. Both cameras have Leica lens that are not new to users and were included in some of the last models of Huawei.

The hardware capacity is made to compete with the top-selling phones right now like iPhone 8 or the Note 8. The internal storage as I already mentioned is 128GB and is pretty much enough but the bad thing is that it does not feature a micro SD slot and that’s one of the biggest cons of the phone as well as the non-existence of the 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone, on the other hand, is waterproof, which is the reason for the removal of the headphone jack, because the company said that it’d be really difficult to waterproof it as well and it’ll be the weak spot of the whole device.

If you like to load up heavy games on this smartphone in your free time you’ll surely like its performance. The phone packs Huawei’s latest Kirin 970 octa-core processor, backed up by 6GB of RAM which is every bit as speedy as you’d expect from a top-end phone. Navigation is swift, apps load quickly and demanding games such as Asphalt: Xtreme plays well with no discernable stuttering.
