Samsung Portable SSD T5 – From 250GB to 2TB

If you are a busy kind of person, who moves constantly from one place to another, then you’d like to have a safe place where you’d be able to store all your important files and needed information. This is why the Samsung Portable SSD T5 is created, so it could store all the information you want on a 2TB compact drive, that’s small enough to carry in your pocket.

Leveraging the USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) interface, the T5 is quoted with maximum transfer speeds up to 540MB/s for all capacities—which is almost 100MB/s faster than the T3—and can be connected directly to an Android device. Samsung has also updated the drive’s embedded software, allowing you to reset your password, check capacity and manage firmware updates.

Design

The design is making the device really small, ergonomic and perfect to carry wherever you want! The overall size of the SSD is 74 x 57.3 x 10.5 mm and the amazing weight is estimated at only 51 grams. The style of creation is smooth, clean and there are no buttons, unneeded LED lights or whatsoever. The only thing it has is a USB port, that’s being used as the main point of connection between the device and the computer, as well as a little blue light that indicates that the device is steady and ready for transferring data.

On the upper part, there’s a big Samsung branding logo, with the exact name of the model underneath, but in a smaller font. The material used for the build is metal-like and may be catching scuffs easily, but won’t dismantle if it falls from 1-2 meters height, because of the full metal, shock-resistant internal frame, that can survive the drop. On the bottom it’s the same, except the T5 Samsung Portable SSD has been moved the lower left corner.

Specs and performance

The 2TB Samsung T5 measured 426.62MB/s read and 406.39MB/s write, which is a vast improvement over the T3’s read and write speeds of 322.52MB/s and 159.13MB/s, respectively.Though the T5’s 500GB model had a slight increase in reads with 427.97MB/s, it took a dip in write performance – 241.76MB/s. On 2MB random performance, the 2TB Samsung SSD achieved 404.32MB/s read and 400.26MB/s write, which is another key change and a big step in upgrading, since the already impressive performance offered by the Samsung T3 SSD.
