$50 FunTime – Smrtphone Controllable Airplane!

Most of us may think that for $50 you can’t get much things that will worth the money. That sounds true to me too, but after you check out this cool smart paper airplane, you will maybe change your opinion. It’s a project that started out on “Kickstarter” and quickly gained the needed and reasonable attention.

PowerUP Dart is a small and easy to build paper airplane, that could be remotely controlled via your smartphone. No matter how you “land” it, you will hardly break the airplane. I put “land” in brackets, simply because you don’t land it at all, just crash it wherever you find a good place.

What exactly is this paper airplane?

I think that the key to living a happy life is keeping the inner kid within yourself. Most of us form our emotions on the earliest moments and situations of our lives, which happen to be the years of growing up from a kid to an adult. Keeping the kid within will always bring you joy, even at the hardest times. This is basically the idea behind the whole project and what motivated the team of engineers to create this fun toy for adults.

This PowerUP Dart airplane is easy to build, or to be more accurate – it is easy to fold. You simply have to follow the folding steps in the manual and strictly follow the lines that have been printed on that folding paper. The full kit and things you need for the build of the whole project come with the package. After that, you have to fold the small paper plane, attach the DART system, and you are ready to fly around your backyard, office or park with impressive accuracy and speed. You can do cool tricks with an awesome paper plane jet you’ve folded all by yourself.

How to operate and do tricks with it

All you need to operate this easy to build airplane is a smartphone. It is controlled via an app, that you can download from GooglePlay or iTunes. After you download the app and pair the device and the DART with the built-in Bluetooth connection, you are ready for take-off. The airplane could gain speed up to 40km/h, and you can control that with a “Boost” slider within the app. If you want to make a turn or a quick trick, you have to precisely tilt your phone, as those sensors on your device work as a steering wheel.

With a paper airplane, that’s capable of 40km/h speed, I bet that you can open up your creativity and do plenty of different tricks and maneuvers. This DART that you attach to the paper body is specifically designed for such things. In the manual, there’s a full list of maneuvers that you can try, but I suggest you do it in a place that does not have anything that you can hit/break or crash your plane into. There is a landing wheel on the front that will help you for a smoother and better landing, but if you are flying with a high speed in a room that does not have enough space, you will most probably crash your plane. It will not be a big problem, as it is extremely durable, but you won’t get the most of the flying experience. There’s a list of some of the tricks you can perform on it.

These combinations are easy to follow, as soon as you learn the basics of the app and device. There are some more, that are not included here, but when you get the full kit for yourself, you’ll get to know and enjoy them. For $50 I think that this project is worth the money. As I said, there are not many things to buy with this amount, but this paper-airplane will offer you a different experience that you will most definitely like, regardless the age.
