Snapchat Will Broadcast The Winter Olympics 2018!

If you are a fan of sports and you are keen on watching the upcoming Winter 2018 Olympics, well, then we have good news for you! You will actually have another option to watch the Games live and it is through Snapchat!A new live video feature, called Live, will allow National Broadcasting Company (NBC) Sports to stream two- to six-minute long segments from the Winter Olympics, that will take place at PyeongChang, South Korea, directly through the well-known among the youth social app, Snapchat announced this week.

Users can opt to be notified about when key events from popular sports like snowboarding and figure skating begin, and can watch the short segments on the app as they are happening on the spot. The feature is part of a deal made between Snapchat and the National Broadcasting Company for exclusive content of the 2018 Winter Olympics. NBCUniversal invested $500 million in Snap Inc. when the company went public last year, so the ties are pretty hard among these two corporations. The two companies also worked together during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, when NBC had a Snapchat “Discover” channel that included clips from the Games.

What is more, is that this actual partnership this time will include a feature what Snapchat calls “Context Cards.” Those so-called cards, which will be available in the “Our Stories” section of the application, will include important details on the schedule for the games that’ll take place, medals awarded and news coverage of the whole event. The Olympic live streaming will be available on the Snapchat app starting from today, while the “Context Cards” are already available from yesterday.Go ahead and check them out if you have the Snapchat application installed! If you don’t, well, this is your chance to do it and to watch those Winter Olympics live!

The Olympics announcement from Snapchat came shortly after the shares of the company rose after it reported substantial growth. Snap Inc also released a redesign of the app this week that separates users’ stories and snaps to one another from those made by companies and news that decided to feature on the app.

Aside from Snapchat, for the first time ever, the National Broadcasting Company is about to broadcast its coverage for the Olympics live following lackluster ratings for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and complaints from viewers who learned about event results before they could watch matchups, due to the hour difference – or in other words Snapchat spoiled their whole event watching.
