The First Dual-Screen Foldable Smartphone

The first ever dual-screen smartphone is out on the market and is hands down one of the most innovative additions that were released in 2017. The model goes by the name Axon M and is manufactured by company named ZTE. The idea of such as phone is great and it has things that couldn’t be seen in any other top-notch model. The price of this one is $725, despite the design doesn’t tell that, but makes multitasking easier than ever before!

Lewis, from UnboxTherapy, is probably the first YouTube vlogger who was able to get his hands on the device and make such a full review that enables us to get a better idea of how it functions, so special thanks to him and his crew! The phone is incredibly good and I’d rather see more similar ideas, than just plain rectangular phones with slightly different abilities. This one beats them all, in terms of creativity, and I hope that its sales raise because it deserves more attention.

Idea behind creation

The whole idea behind the creation of this smartphone is to offer further view and multitasking abilities. With this foldable and easy to carry phone the user feels free to open 2-3 apps that he has to pay attention to simultaneously, without having to switch and interupt himself constantly. There are three different modes ZTE offers for taking advantage of the second display, which can be switched between through an extra “M” button that the company adds next to Android’s usual software buttons for going back, home, and multitasking. I highly appreciate the idea and effort of the whole engineering team, because such addition is expected from the top-companies in the world right now, but none of them managed to do it first.

View modes

There are three viewing modes on this big dual screen smartphone which you could enjoy and all of them are good enough to ensure the best performance on-the-go. The device is perfect not only for people who use it as a regular smartphone, but for those who have to do work related stuff on it and have to be more productive. To make that happen, the ZTE company decided to make 3 different modes that you users could easily switch between, with a single tap.

-Dual – dual mode lets you run two apps side by side, one on each screen. It works in both portrait and landscape modes, and it’s probably the most useful and most functional of the three modes. Being able to open up your Facebook on the one side and YouTube on the other feels great, without the need of interuption between switching. The Axon M also manages audio, so that you’ll only hear the screen you’re actively interacting with if both are trying to play.

-Extended – this mode enables the user to open up an app on both screens, for further performance and similar to tablet device experience. It is the best mode for watching videos, but I don’t think that it may suit all of us. I personally really like it, but I am sure that there will be people who’ll complain about the thin bezel in the middle, that’ll “interrupt” the viewing experience. It is the best mode not only for watching videos, but for all type of media, games and movies.

-Mirror – mirror mode presents the same picture on both displays. The idea behind this mode is to fold the phone using the two screens as “walls” that hold the phone into an upside down V-like position. This way you can present a video or any other type of media to more people, who can watch on both sides of the phone, which is as practical as it sounds. It can also be found useful while taking selfies with the camera, as there is only one located on the back, which when flipped works as a secondary, but I’ll explain that below.
